WhatsApp Replies Are No Longer Free:
What October’s Pricing Change Costs Oman Businesses

Since 1 October 2026, replying to customers on the WhatsApp Business Platform can cost money, and Oman now has its own, higher rate card. What changed, who is affected, what it costs and six ways to keep the bill down.

Key takeaways
  • Since 1 October, free-form replies inside the 24-hour window are charged after a reported 1,000 free per number each month.
  • Utility templates (order updates, booking reminders) sent inside the window are no longer free.
  • Oman moved to its own rate card, with higher utility and authentication rates.
  • It affects businesses using the WhatsApp Business Platform (API) through a provider, not the free WhatsApp Business app on a phone.

Checked 23 October 2026. Rates are per delivered message, in US dollars, as published in Meta’s rate card and tracked by WhatsApp providers. Confirm the current figures in your provider’s dashboard before budgeting; providers may also add their own fees.

01What changed

Until 30 September, a customer messaging an Omani shop opened a free 24-hour window. Inside it, the shop could reply as often as it liked, and send order updates, at no cost. From 1 October, that window still exists, but what happens inside it is no longer entirely free.

02Who is affected

Affected

WhatsApp Business Platform users

Businesses using a provider such as a CRM, chatbot or shared inbox, with an API-connected number. Most e-commerce stores, clinics with booking systems and delivery businesses.

Not affected

WhatsApp Business app on a phone

The free app many small shops use directly is not billed per message. The change applies to the Platform (API).

Hit hardest

High-volume support

Businesses answering thousands of chats a month, or sending order and delivery updates for every purchase, will see the biggest new costs.

Little change

Marketing-led senders

If you mainly send marketing templates, those were already charged. Oman’s marketing rate was not part of the October increase.

03Oman’s new rates

On 1 October, Oman moved out of the “Rest of Middle East” pricing group onto its own rate card, with higher utility and authentication rates.3 As published in provider trackers of Meta’s rate card:4

A few baisa sounds small. But a store handling 6,000 chats and 3,000 orders a month can now pay for roughly 5,000 replies and 3,000 order updates that used to be free. The calculator below works it out for your numbers.

04Six ways to cut the bill

1

Answer in fewer messages

One complete reply with price, size, delivery and link costs less than five short ones. Train the team, or build saved replies, to answer fully the first time.

2

Put answers where people look first

Prices, sizes and delivery times on your website and Instagram cut the “how much?” chats. See why “price in DM” costs you.

3

Merge status updates

Do customers need “confirmed”, “packed”, “shipped” and “out for delivery”? Two well-timed updates often do the job of four.

4

Split numbers wisely

The free allowance is reported per number. A separate support number may make sense for high volumes; check the rules with your provider first.

5

Make marketing earn its place

At about 13 baisa per message, a broadcast to 10,000 people costs about OMR 131. Send fewer, better-targeted campaigns and measure sales.

6

Track cost per order

Add WhatsApp costs to your cost per order. If a channel brings sales cheaply, a few baisa per message is a bargain. See WhatsApp commerce in Oman.

Common questions

Are WhatsApp Business replies free in Oman?

Not any more on the WhatsApp Business Platform. Since 1 October 2026, free-form replies inside the 24-hour window are charged after a reported 1,000 free per business number each month, at the utility rate. Messages customers send to you remain free.

How much does a WhatsApp message cost in Oman?

From 1 October 2026, provider trackers of Meta’s rate card list Oman at about $0.0341 per marketing message and $0.0247 per utility, service or authentication message, before provider fees.

Does this affect the free WhatsApp Business app?

No. Per-message pricing applies to the WhatsApp Business Platform (API) used through providers. The WhatsApp Business app on a phone is not charged per message.

Why did Oman’s WhatsApp rates go up?

On 1 October 2026 Oman moved out of the “Rest of Middle East” pricing group onto its own rate card, with higher utility and authentication rates. Marketing rates for Oman were not part of the increase.
