A centre tells you which colour belongs on that face. The centres keep their positions relative to each other, even as everything around them moves.
Lost your bearings? Find the centres. An edge has two colours. A corner has three. Those colours travel together: the white–red–green corner belongs between those three centres.
12 edges. 8 corners. Each has a home.A white face can look finished while its side colours are mixed up. A solved first layer also forms a matching row along all four sides.
Check around the sides before moving on.Open a stage to see the goal and what to watch for.
Bring the four white edges around the white centre. Match each edge’s second colour to its side centre.
Place the four white corners between their matching centres. Check the side rows as well as the white face.
Turn the whole cube so white is underneath. Insert the four edges without yellow into the middle layer.
Orient the top edges to make a yellow plus sign. Leave the yellow corners for later.
Move the yellow-cross edges into positions where their side colours match the centres.
Position each yellow corner between its three matching centres. Yellow need not face upwards yet.
Orient the remaining corners using the final-stage procedure, then align the top layer.
